Pack 270 holds camping trips at least two times a year — once in the fall and then again in the spring.

These trips are to local state parks and are rarely more than an hour away. Some of the activities during these camping trips include: hikes, bike riding, fishing (where available), etc. We also try to plan scout related activities such as map reading, compass work, and knot tying to try and help the boys earn advancements.

One of our favorite sites is the Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding.  Here are links to some important historical and safety information about the park:

We also hold one Pack Overnight trip per year where we will “camp-in” at a specific venue that offers overnight activities tailored specifically for scouts.

Past trips have included:

  • The Battleship Massachusetts
  • Franklin Institute
  • Children’s Museum
  • Mystic Aquarium
  • U.S.S. Salem

These locations are scout favorites and are within easy driving distance.

CT Yankee Council also offers overnight trips during the course of the year but the Pack does not coordinate with council for these trips. Although Pack Officers and Den Leaders may provide the information, they are not to serve as the conduit for forwarding registration materials to council unless agreed upon between the affected Leader and parents. Occasionally these trips will be announced and a volunteer will be sought to coordinate the involvement of the participants but the registration materials will not be handled by the pack.
